Ceramic Coating in Action: Northland KC

Real footage from vehicles we coated in our Smithville shop. No stock video. This is what the hydrophobic finish on our Triton & Theseus coatings actually does when water and soap hit the paint.

The bead test

What does water beading look like on a ceramic coated car?

Water pulls into tight, round beads and rolls off the panel instead of sitting flat, taking dust and grime with it. That's the coating's hydrophobic layer at work, and it's the clearest visible proof the coating is bonded and curing as it should.

Poured straight onto a customer's coated GMC. The water pulls into beads and runs off before it can sit.

Wash day

How does a ceramic coated car wash differently?

Soap sheets off instead of clinging, contaminants release with far less agitation, and the panel rinses nearly dry. A coated car washes faster, needs less product, and dries with fewer water spots, which is why maintenance washes get easier for years after coating.

Three more, straight from the bay

Same coating, different vehicles. A heavy-duty GMC getting the bead test on the fender, the Porsche taking its rinse, and a BMW under the power washer with the whole hood standing up in beads.

The science

Why does ceramic coating repel water?

A cured ceramic coating is a hard, glass-like layer bonded to the clear coat. Its surface energy is so low that water can't spread out and grip, so it beads, sheets, and carries contaminants off the paint. The same layer resists UV and oxidation, which is what keeps the gloss deep between washes.

The effect in these clips isn't a wax that fades in weeks. Our coatings range from a one-year entry coating to a 10-year flagship, and boats get the same treatment with Triton & Theseus marine ceramic.

Life after coating

Why does dust stop sticking after a coating?

A cured coating does not build up the static cling bare paint carries, and dust needs that cling to hang on. Run a gravel road all week, hop on the highway, and a good share of that dust lifts off before you are up to speed. What is left releases far easier than it would from bare paint: eight quarters at the self serve bay, a pass with the pressure wand, soap if you feel like being thorough, and the finish comes back looking cared for.

Do that once a month and you have spent about $24 on washes for the year, which covers most of the maintenance on a coated vehicle. See the full car wash math for the complete cost breakdown.
