The county seat

One town living two lives, and both are hard on a vehicle

Platte City is the only place in the Northland where the courthouse crowd and the airport crowd share a parking lot. Around the square at 3rd & Main, county staff, school-district vehicles on Branch Street, and pickups nosed in against the brick storefronts all sit outside every workday, through July sun and January salt.

The other Platte City is ten minutes down I-29: airline crews, TSA officers, and warehouse shifts running to KCI morning and night. Highway miles, bugs and tar all summer, salt all winter, parked under open sky in between. Our full detailing packages handle that mix, and our mobile detailing unit means most customers never leave the driveway.

What we can do for your vehicle

Mobile at your Platte City home or office, or in the shop on Bridge Street in Smithville. Same crew, same products, same standard either way.

The KCI corridor

A week in the Economy Lot ages paint faster than a month in a garage

If you fly out of KCI, or park there every shift, you know the routine. The car sits in an open lot and whatever lands on it stays there. Sun bakes the finish. Sap and bird droppings sit for days and bond on, and droppings will etch clear coat once summer heat cooks them in.

Winter is its own problem. Every airport run is an I-29 run, and from first snow to spring that means salt spray on the rockers and lower panels twice a day. Drivers crossing the 92 river bridge from Fort Leavenworth pick up the same film at highway speed. Reviewers mention a military discount, so say so when you book.

Grey SUV with a flawless protected finish, the kind of commuter that lives on I-29

Here’s the order we fight back in.

Decontamination wash

First we take off what the parking lot left behind. A decontamination wash pulls away bug guts, tar, sap, and road film that soap alone will not touch. The paint has to be truly clean before anything else happens.

Paint correction

Next we fix the finish itself. Paint correction machine-polishes out the swirl marks, haze, and light etching already in the clear coat. That is the difference between a car that looks washed and one that looks deep.

Ceramic coating

Then we protect it. A ceramic coating leaves a slick, UV-stable layer over the paint, so sun, sap, and bird droppings sit on the coating instead of the clear coat. Next week in the lot rinses off instead of soaking in.

Paint protection film

Front ends take the worst of I-29. Paint protection film is a clear urethane layer over the bumper, hood edge, and mirrors that stops rock chips before they reach the paint. It is the one thing a coating cannot do.

Gravel, drywall & fair week

The dust out here isn’t one thing. It’s three

And the town keeps growing. D.R. Horton is framing houses in Windmill Creek, Inspired Homes and Kerns are building out Running Horse, and Seven Bridges keeps filling in around its lakes and trails. Those driveways hold cars that run 92 and I-29 every day. Three very different kinds of dust land on them.

Limestone off the gravel

A mile past the city limits toward Tracy, Camden Point, or Dearborn, the pavement runs out. White limestone dust gets into vents, door jambs, seat tracks, and down in the carpet where a vacuum never reaches. A real interior detail digs it out.

Drywall & concrete dust

New construction in Windmill Creek and Running Horse coats parked cars in drywall and concrete dust. Wipe it off dry and you scratch your own paint. A decontamination wash lifts it off safely, and a coated car sheds the next round.

Fair week in July

Four days at the Platte County Fair in Tracy sends a truck home covered in dust and mud, inside and out. We see those trucks every summer, and we’re glad to get them. Bring yours in when fair week is done.

Different dust, same fix, and mostly in your own driveway. Our mobile unit runs Platte City every week:

  • Seven Bridges
  • Running Horse
  • Windmill Creek
  • Old town (Main & Branch)
  • The square at 3rd & Main
  • The KCI corridor
  • Tracy
  • Camden Point

Rather drop it off? The shop at 115 S Bridge St in downtown Smithville is 13 miles straight east on the same highway Platte City sits on. No interchanges, no metro traffic. We run Parkville and Kearney on the same Northland rounds. The full list is on our service areas page. Or call or text (816) 873-2323 and we’ll point you at the right package, not the biggest one.

FAQ

Platte City questions, straight answers

Can you detail in my driveway in Seven Bridges or Running Horse, or do I need to bring it to Smithville?
Either one works. Our mobile unit covers Platte City regularly: Seven Bridges, Running Horse, Windmill Creek, and the older blocks around Main and Branch. If you’d rather drop off, the shop at 115 S Bridge St in downtown Smithville is a straight shot east on 92, about 20 minutes door to door. Same crew, same products, same standard either way.
I work at KCI and my car sits outside in the lot every shift. What actually protects the paint?
A ceramic coating is the honest answer. Sun, sap, and bird droppings do their damage by bonding to bare clear coat and baking in; a coating gives them a slick, UV-stable layer to sit on instead, so they rinse off rather than etch in. We prep with a full decontamination wash first, and if the lot has already left etching or swirl marks, paint correction pulls those out before the coating locks the finish in.
We live on gravel north of town toward Tracy. Every vent and floor mat is full of white limestone dust. Can you really get it all out?
Yes. That fine white limestone powder settles into vents, door jambs, seat tracks, and the base of the carpet where a quick vacuum never reaches, and it keeps reappearing until somebody chases it out of the crevices properly. It takes real time and the right tools, and trucks that live on gravel are some of the most satisfying turnarounds we do.
We just closed on a new build in Windmill Creek and both cars are covered in construction dust. What should we do?
First, don’t wipe it off dry. Drywall and concrete dust is abrasive, and dragging it across the paint is how a brand-new car picks up scratches in its first month. A proper decontamination wash lifts it off safely, and while the neighborhood is still framing out, protecting the paint means the next layer of dust rinses off instead of grinding in.
Do you clean up trucks after Platte County Fair week in July?
Every summer. A few days at the fairgrounds in Tracy will coat a truck in dust or mud, inside and out, and we’re glad to bring it back. For stock trailers and anything beyond the truck itself, call (816) 873-2323 and we’ll talk it through. Stock and utility trailers are absolutely in scope. Post-fair cleanup is work we’re glad to get.
You’re based in Smithville. Is there a travel fee for coming down 92 to Platte City?
Platte City is about the easiest mobile run on our map. It’s 13 miles of the same highway our shop sits on, door to door. Mobile service is reserved for fleet contracts and recurring maintenance plans across the KC metro. For everything else, the Smithville shop turns standard details around same-day: drop by 9, back by 6. Call or text (816) 873-2323 when you book and we’ll square away scheduling for your address.

Ready when your shift ends
