Your Camper Shouldn’t Have to Drive an Hour to Get Cleaned Up

Camp Branch and Crows Creek hold more than 700 campsites about ten minutes from our front door, and the rigs that fill them spend the other ten months of the year sitting in Northland storage quietly chalking in the sun. The nearest big RV service centers are out on the I-70 corridor. That is 45 minutes or more each way with a 35-foot trailer behind you. We’re at 115 S Bridge St in Smithville, and the mobile unit comes to where the rig is parked. One honest caveat up front: RV and bus work is quoted after we see the unit. Length, condition and access decide the number, and nobody can put that on a price menu.

Smithville Lake · Collins Road · US-169

The rigs are already here. The service never was.

Smithville sits where US-169 and Missouri Route 92 cross, so most campers moving across the Northland pass within a few minutes of our building. Ten minutes east, Clay County Parks runs Camp Branch and Crows Creek on Smithville Lake, more than 700 campsites between them. That is a lot of fiberglass in one small corner of Missouri.

Most of the year those rigs sit in storage, not at home, on gated lots along Collins Road and up US-169, side-on to the sun. When the sidewall finally goes chalky, the nearest big RV service centers are out on I-70 in Grain Valley or across the state line, 45 minutes each way before you have towed anything. We are ten minutes from the boat ramp, with a mobile unit that drives to you.

Here is how a number happens. RV work is priced by the foot and then by condition, and condition is what swings the bill. Two identical 32-foot trailers can be double each other’s labor, depending on how far the fade has gone, what the roof is made of, how much decal there is, and whether we can reach all four sides. We would rather say that than post a rate we would have to walk back.

Send us photos

Shoot the sidewalls in daylight, the black streaking under the roof line, and the decals up close. Add the roof if you can see it safely. Phone pictures from the ground are enough to start. Call (816) 873-2323 or send them through the contact form.

We look at the rig

We check length, what the siding is made of, the roof type, how much decal there is, how deep the fade runs, and the room we have where it sits. Heavy chalking may need sanding before polishing, which is a different job entirely.

You get a real number

A scope you can read and a price that does not move once work starts. If the gelcoat is already polished through and the answer is paint, not a buffer, we tell you that instead of selling a detail that will not hold.

Surfaces, not packages

A camper is five materials pretending to be one vehicle

A car is paint and glass. An RV is gelcoat, a rubber roof, aluminum trim, vinyl graphics and awning fabric. Five surfaces that fail in different ways, and they all want different products. Knowing which one you are touching, and in what order, is most of the trade. Here is what we look at when we walk a rig.

Gelcoat oxidation and chalking

Run a hand down a sun-baked sidewall and it comes back white. That is gelcoat breaking down in the sun. Polishing brings the shine back if there is gelcoat left to work. Polished through, it needs paint. Same job as gelcoat restoration and boat detailing.

Black streaks down the sidewall

Those streaks are not dirt. They are runoff off the roof, washed down the side and stuck there. Buff first and you grind the staining in. We lift the streaks with a product safe on gelcoat, aluminum and decals, then correct the fade underneath.

The roof is not paint: EPDM vs TPO

Most rigs have one of two rubber roofs. EPDM is the older, softer one. It chalks, and that chalk is what streaks your sidewalls. TPO is newer, stiffer. Both need mild soap and a soft brush, never harsh cleaners. We check which you have first.

Decals and graphics

Vinyl graphics are far thinner than the gelcoat around them. Too much pad or heat burns straight through. So we hand-wash around graphics and ease off at every edge. Faded vinyl often comes back. Once it cracks and lifts, nothing brings it back.

Awnings and slide-out toppers

Awning fabric grows mildew in the folds while a rig sits, and stains from tree drip. Shampoo and a soft brush lift it out. A conditioner keeps the fabric soft so it does not crack. Slide toppers are worse, because nobody looks at them.

Interiors that have been shut since October

Shut a camper up all Missouri winter and you open it to musty air, dust everywhere, and sometimes signs that mice moved in. We clean upholstery and carpet, hard surfaces and glass, then treat the smell. It is our interior detailing on a bigger scale.

Protection · Triton ceramic

Coat the body. Treat the roof. They are not the same job.

Triton is the marine ceramic we already run on boat hulls, built for gelcoat, hard sun and constant water. On a camper it goes on the fiberglass and painted panels, and only after the oxidation has been corrected, because a coating locks in whatever is under it. What you get is a rig that washes easier and a barrier against the sun that faded it. More on ceramic coating and boat detailing. Triton on an RV carries 5-year protection, warranty backed.*

What ceramic does not go on is the roof. A rubber roof gets a rubber-safe UV protectant after every cleaning, to keep it soft and slow the chalking that feeds the streaks down your sidewalls. Any shop offering to coat the whole rig, roof included, is telling you something. Best timing is spring before the season, or fall before it goes into storage.

Machine compounding the chalky sidewall of a Class A motorhome back to gloss

What we service

From a pop-up to a 40-foot diesel pusher. And the church bus, too

If it is too big for a car wash and too specific for a commercial fleet washer, it belongs on this list.

Class A, Class B and Class C motorhomes

Diesel pushers included. A 40-foot Class A is a lot of surface at ladder height, with vents, AC covers and slide seals to work around, and sidewalls we take in sections. Class B vans are smaller, mostly painted, and usually a daily driver.

Travel trailers, fifth wheels and toy haulers

The Northland’s most common rigs, and the ones that sit still longest. Bumper-pulls, fifth wheels and toy haulers get the same treatment: streaks lifted, gelcoat corrected, decals hand-worked, roof cleaned and protected, awning and slide toppers shampooed. The walk-around decides how far we go.

Pop-ups, truck campers, teardrops and vintage trailers

Smaller and older units are often painted aluminum rather than fiberglass. Faded aluminum needs a different process, and treating it like fiberglass ruins panels. So we work out what the siding is before anything touches it. On these rigs that is most of the job.

Church buses, activity buses and shuttle vans

The most overlooked work in the Northland. A bus is a painted or wrapped exterior plus a hard-used interior: seats, rubber floors, glass and the rails people grab every week. Most bus washing is on the Kansas side. We would rather set a standing schedule.

Skoolies and bus conversions

A converted bus is two jobs at once. Outside is part paint, part wrap and part whatever the last owner did to it. Inside is somebody’s house. We treat each accordingly and say up front which finishes we can improve and which we cannot.

In-shop at 115 S Bridge St, or mobile to a driveway, a shop yard or a storage lot. Storage lots set their own rules on washing and outside vendors, so tell us which lot your rig lives in and we will check first. Same at Camp Branch and Crows Creek. Washing on a site is the county’s call, not ours. The Bridge Street shop clears vehicles up to 12 feet tall, and length isn’t a practical constraint, and big rigs are welcome. We work across the Northland from Platte City to Kearney and down through the KC metro. See everywhere we work.

My truck was recently caught in a flash flood out of state. I had standing water about ankle deep in the floor boards and the under seat storage in the back seat. The smell from the river water was awful, and I had to drive it 5 hours home, so the water had time to really sit in the truck. The Branded Detailing team extracted about 9 gallons of water from the truck, and used enzymes to get rid of the odor and bacteria that was in the floor. The truck looks and smells amazing, and I will absolutely be returning for more detailing work on not only my truck but my wife's car as well. 100% recommend Branded Detailing to anyone looking for amazing work by great people!

FAQ

RV and bus questions, straight answers

How much does it cost to detail an RV, camper or motorhome?
RV work is measured by the linear foot and then set by condition, so there is no menu price we could quote you honestly. Oxidation level, roof type, decal coverage, how much soil is baked on, and whether we can get to all four sides all move the labor hours. Two identical 32-foot travel trailers can be double each other’s work. Call (816) 873-2323 or send photos, and you get a real number after we see the unit.
Do you come to my RV, or do I bring it to you?
Either way. The shop is at 115 S Bridge St in Smithville, and the mobile unit works across the Kansas City Northland: driveways, shop yards, storage lots. Which one makes sense depends on the size of the rig, the water and power available where it sits, and whether there is clearance to work all four sides. We sort that out on the call.
Can you detail my camper at the storage lot where it’s parked?
Often, yes, but it is the facility’s call, not ours. Plenty of storage lots restrict washing, limit water use, or do not allow outside vendors on site at all. Tell us which lot your rig is in and we will confirm their rules before anything gets scheduled. If the answer is no, the shop is right there on Bridge Street.
What is that white chalky powder coming off the side of my camper?
That is oxidized gelcoat. The sun has broken down the surface itself, which is why it goes dull and pale and why the powder transfers to your hand. It is correctable with compounding and multi-stage polishing as long as there is gelcoat left to cut. If it has already been polished or burned through, no amount of buffing brings it back and the honest answer is paint, not detailing. That is one of the first things we check on the walk-around.
Can black streaks be removed for good, or do they always come back?
They come off completely. They come back because they are roof runoff: oxidized rubber, chalked membrane and degraded sealant and trim washing down the sidewall every time it rains. The streaking gets dissolved and lifted first with a product safe on gelcoat, fiberglass, aluminum and decals, and only then do we correct the fade underneath. Cleaning and protecting the roof is what actually slows the streaks down.
Can you ceramic coat an RV?
Yes. Triton, the marine ceramic we already run on boat hulls, goes on the fiberglass and painted surfaces of a camper once the oxidation has been corrected. It makes future washing easier and puts a barrier between the surface and the UV that faded it. The membrane roof does not get ceramic; it gets a rubber-safe UV protectant instead, because a coating does not belong on a rubber or thermoplastic roof. More on the systems we run: ceramic coating.
Will buffing damage my decals and graphics, and can faded decals be restored?
It can, badly. Cast vinyl graphics are far thinner than the gelcoat around them, and an aggressive pad or too much heat will burn straight through a decal or lift an edge. We hand-wash around graphics and ease off machine pressure at every decal boundary. Faded decals can often be brought back if the vinyl is still sound. But once it has cracked and lifted, restoration will not resurrect it, and on an older model replacement graphics may no longer be made.
Do you detail church buses, activity buses and shuttle vans?
Yes. That is the painted or wrapped exterior and the full passenger interior: seats, rubber flooring, glass and the high-touch surfaces dozens of people put their hands on every week. Most of the metro’s commercial bus washing runs out of the Kansas side, which is a long way to send a bus from the Northland. Call us and we will build the visit around your service calendar.

Send us a picture of the sidewall

Photograph the chalking, the black streaks and the decals from the ground. That is usually enough to start the conversation. Then we come see the rig and give you a real number.
